Getting from Split to Lastovo Island

from Split to Lastovo by ferry

If you are travelling anywhere from Europe or from neighbouring Italy by ferry from Ancona, train, bus or flight and arriving in Split, this is the best place to travel to Lastovo and the nearest airport to the island (check how to get from there to the port).

The distance from Split to Lastovo is 65 nautical miles (about 121 km).

There are two direct ferries to the island from Split, the first one that takes foot passengers only and another one that takes foot passengers as well as cars and other vehicles (see it in action in the above photo).

Both ferries are run by the Jadrolinija ferry company and are both arriving at Ubli ferry port, which is the only ferry port on the island. They are in operation all year around. See the below details:

Foot passengers:

If you are a foot passenger, your best option is (if you can) to take the fast catamaran ferry line 9604 that leaves daily (weather permit) between Split and Lastovo.

The journey lasts for about 3 hours.

It is 9604 Jadrolinija’s ferry line, departing from Split daily at 14:00 and arriving in Lastovo (Ubli) at 17:05;

From June to September this ferry leaves at 15:00 arriving at 18:05. Book it online here

Alternatively, take slow Jadrolinija’s ferry, departing from Split daily at 15:00 and arriving in Lastovo (Ubli) at 19:15

From June to September on certain days of the week, this ferry leaves twice a day.

By Car:

If you are travelling by car your best option is (if you can) to take a car ferry that leaves daily from Split to Lastovo.

It is Jadrolinija’s ferry line 604, departing from Split from June to September daily at 10:15 and 17:30 arriving in Lastovo (Ubli) at 15:30 and 22:00, in other periods at 15:00 arriving in Lastovo at 19:15 (Fri and Sat departure is an hour later)

Your other option is to drive from Split to Orebic, cross to Korcula island and drive to Vela Luka where you can catch the same ferry to Lastovo. this option may be suitable for people who would like to visit Korcula island too or if you need to travel somewhere else on the mainland and from that point it is closer to reach Korcula than drive back to Split.

I often use this way of travel if I’m in Dubrovnik and want to get by car to Lastovo so instead of driving to Split I just cross to Korcula and catch the ferry from there. It is a good option for off-season travelling when other ferries do not operate. (see connecting schedules on croatiaferries.com website)

Private boat transfer:

Yes, it is possible to get a private fast boat transfer from Split to Lastovo. However,  I would not recommend you to rely on it. The reason is that the weather is unpredictable and you may get stuck somewhere for a few hours even days sometime. Instead, take a regular public ferry, even if it is a bit slower but at least you can be sure that you will arrive safely.

Whenever I go to Split, I always choose the fast ferry if the weather is fine. However, if the seas are rough, I choose a car ferry to travel with. There are two reasons:

  1. First – it is much more stable on rough seas and therefore more pleasurable to travel on;
  2. Second – it is more likely it will indeed depart, which is not always the case with fast catamarans.

So, if you want to make sure you will (almost) certainly depart, take a slow ferry!
